previous occupancy

My office has been moved yet again, and I'm just settling into a new location. I wonder who had this office before me? There aren't many clues. Here's a label on the bookshelf right by the desk:

What kind of instruments? Musical? Surgical? Why do the pictures get their own place on the shelf?

And then there's this:

This magnet takes me right back to late elementary/early middle school – I could imagine this on a locker, or pinned onto a backpack. Maybe the pattern of diagonal stripes would have made for a good Trapper Keeper cover! I think I'll keep it right there.
